EAC3 to FLAC Converter

Convert EAC3 to FLAC

EAC3 to FLAC Conversion Software converts EAC3 files to FLAC and keeps ID3 tag. The converter offers many useful features. For example, automatically normalizes volume of EAC3 and FLAC so that all output files have the same volume; skips the first X milliseconds of EAC3 and FLAC files when converting; only converts X milliseconds of EAC3 and FLAC files; joins multiple files to one file. The converter also convert files to popular formats such as M4R (iPhone ringtone), WAV, OGG, AAC, M4A (MPEG-4 audio), MP3, AWB, M4B (MPEG-4 audiobook), etc. It could convert SHN to M4R (iPhone ringtone), DTS to MMF, XM to VOC, DTS to MP2, CDA to AIFF, APE to AAC, and so on.

The software is very easy to use and supports batch conversion. It is full compatible with Windows 10/8/7/Vista/XP/2000 including both 32-bit and 64-bit editions.

What is EAC3?
Dolby Digital Plus (DD+ or E-AC-3 (Enhanced AC-3), and sometimes incorrectly as EC-3) is a digital audio compression scheme. It is an incompatible[1] development of the technologies used in the earlier Dolby Digital system. E-AC-3 has a number of improvements aimed at increasing quality at a given bitrate compared with legacy Dolby Digital (AC-3). While legacy AC-3 supports up to 5 full-range audio channels at a coded bitrate of 0.640 Mbit/s, E-AC-3 supports up to 13 full range audio channels at a coded bitrate of 6.144 Mbit/s peak.

Dolby Digital Plus bitstreams are not backward compatible with legacy Dolby Digital decoders, and decoders that output audio over legacy S/PDIF connections must transcode the bitstreams to an older format such as PCM, AC-3, or DTS.

The codec used by Dolby Digital Plus is based on the original Dolby Digital codec, but with several enhancements to improve coding efficiency:

  • Transient pre-noise processing - to reduce "pre-noise" artifacts before sharp transients.
  • Enhanced channel coupling - which maintains phase relationships between channels, and improves performance of matrix decoders.
  • Adaptive hybrid transform processing - an improved bit allocation and quantization algorithm.

Dolby claims that these changes can result in bitrate improvements of up to 50% while still allowing for the signal to be efficiently converted to Dolby Digital for backwards compatibility.

What is FLAC?
Free Lossless Audio Codec (FLAC) is a file format for lossless audio data compression. Being lossless, FLAC does not remove information from the audio stream, as lossy compression formats such as MP3, AAC, and Vorbis do. FLAC's primary author is Josh Coalson. FLAC reduces bandwidth and storage requirements without sacrificing the integrity of the audio source. A digital audio recording (such as a CD track) encoded to FLAC can be decompressed into an identical copy of the audio data. Audio sources encoded to FLAC are typically reduced in size 40 to 50 percent (46% according to their own comparison). FLAC is suitable for everyday audio playback and archival, with support for tagging, cover art and fast seeking. FLAC's free and open source royalty-free nature makes it well-supported by many software applications, but FLAC playback support in portable audio devices and dedicated audio systems is limited at this time.
